Tyson Sy stuck to a plan that had worked twice to perfection, leaving behind a field fighting for second place and completing a hat-trick as the first leg of the 2006 Asian Formula Three Series ended Sunday at the Batangas Racing Circuit.

Sy roared away from the field as early as the fifth lap and checked in first in the 16 minutes, 35.806 seconds. John O'Hara made a storming start from the back of the grid and was up to fifth by the end of the first lap. He was soon in fourth place and was further helped when Battisttini and Jackson tangled at the first turn. Dado Pena a controlled race and finished third behind O'Hara with jackson and Winslow in tow.
Sy with a 60-point total that now looms hard to challenge will go into the next leg in Zhuhai, China.
Satrio Hermanto was not troubled in his drive to first palce in the Promotions Class with JP Tuason second. Gaby dela Merced finished thirdm just third after she clashed with fellow Filipina Michele Bumgarner, at the final turn on the last lap. Bumgarner ended her race in the gravel. Bumgarner had stalled at the start for a third time and had driven well to catch the field.
