Tyson Sy Opens the Series with a Bang

(06 May '06) John O’Hara stalled at the start, fellow front row occupant, Dado Pena all but stalled allowing Sy to take the lead and a relatively easy win from Dillon Battistini and James Winslow. Michele Bumgarner won the Promotions Class.

Bumgarner stalled on the warm up lap and was forced to start from the pit lane. Meanwhile pole sitter O’Hara left it to the real start and stalled when the lights went out. Dado Pena crawled away effectively blocking the road for the rest of the grid. Ali Jackson was forced to hit the brakes hard to avoid hitting his team mate and stalled the engine, being able to get away a lap down. Meanwhile Battistini led out of the first turn but soon succumbed to Sy who drove away from the field.

Pena was storming up through the field when he met Pepon Marave at turn three on the second lap. Marave turned in with Pena alongside and both were out on the spot. Both drivers seemed to think it was a racing accident. Meanwhile O’Hara was storming up the field, taking fastest lap by half a second, and was soon on the tail of Moreno in fourth place. Both were catching Winslow when they caught a back marker in the wrong place giving Winslow the breathing space to finish in third.

JP Tuason led the Promotions Class initially, was caught by Bumgarner who outbraked herself and spent several laps before catching Tuason again and passing into turn one. Gaby dela Merced suffered a puncture from contact in the first turn and finished third in class.
