Speedtech Asia Aims to Widen Team and Driver Championship Gap |
Speedtech Asia is all geared for leg 2 of the 2006 Asia Formula 3 Series scheduled at the Zhuhai International Circuit, in China this weekend.
First leg runaway leader Tyson Sy will lead the three-car team. Tyson will aim to widen the gap following a remarkable season opening leg at Batangas where he managed to win all three races.
“I particularly like Zhuhai and I am confident the team will be able to come up with a highly-workable car setup. I am looking forward to using the momentum I’ve gained from the first leg and aim to further increase the gap in the championship,” remarked Tyson when asked whether a similar result can be expected.
Gaby dela Merced will try her hand at Zhuhai for the first time. She has been reviewing information about the intricacies of the 4.3 kilometer and is looking forward to Thursdays’ unofficial practice sessions. Currently running third in the Promotions Class standings, dela Merced is looking forward to further move up the point’s classification despite being the lone female competitor.
Speedtech’s third car will be driven by Philippine Formula Toyota Champion Roland Hermoso. Although confirmation has been achieved recently, Hermoso is no stranger to the circuit and is looking forward to a top five finish in the teams winning Dallara F301 of last season.
With a robust driver line-up, Speedtech team manager Eden Dy Liacco is confident of having a good chance of boosting point standings for both the team and the driver championship.
“We’ve started out quite strong in Batangas and it surely would be great to be able to duplicate Tyson’s hat trick here in Zhuhai. We were quick at the same track last season but failed to convert it to a race win. Hopefully, we get all the combinations right this time,” commented Dy-Liacco, a former racing champion himself.
Leg 2 of the series is part of the Pan Delta Super Racing Festival and by tradition, thousands of local spectators are expected to fill the grandstands making it the most successful race meeting conducted in China next to the China round of Formula 1.
